2. Overview
Big Steppers is a free step counter for iOS and Android. To compare steps with friends you sign in with Apple (iPhone) or Google. The app shows no ads, uses no tracking or analytics, and we never sell your data.
3. Data we process
- Account: a user ID and the email address provided by Apple or Google when you sign in, and the name from your Apple or Google account if available.
- Profile: first and last name, the avatar you pick and your daily step goal.
- Steps: your total step count per day, read from Apple Health or Health Connect.
- Social features: your friends (added via invite link), groups, duels with their stake, nudges and group chat messages.
- Push notifications: a device token so friends‘ nudges can reach you.
Purpose and legal basis: providing the app’s features, i.e. showing your steps, the leaderboard, duels and chat (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). Step data is health-related data; we process it only because you allow the app to read it and use the social features (Art. 9(2)(a) GDPR).
4. Apple Health and Health Connect
The app only reads your step count. It does not write any data and does not read any other health data. Daily step totals are used solely to show your progress, the leaderboard and duels to you and your friends. Health data is never used for advertising, never sold and never shared with third parties beyond the hosting provider named below. You can revoke access at any time in Apple Health or Health Connect.
5. Who sees your data
Your name, avatar and daily steps are visible to people you are friends with and to members of groups you are in. Chat messages are visible to the members of the group. Duels are visible to both participants. Nobody else can see your data.
6. Hosting and service providers
- Supabase (Supabase Inc., USA) hosts the database and sign-in. Data is stored on servers in the EU (Ireland). A data processing agreement with standard contractual clauses is in place.
- Sign in with Apple / Google: Apple or Google confirm your identity under their own privacy policies.
- Apple Push Notification service delivers notifications on iPhone.
7. Storage period
Chat messages are deleted automatically after 30 days. All other data is kept as long as your account exists.
8. Deleting your account
You can delete your Big Steppers account and all associated data at any time:
- In the app: open the Profile tab and tap „Konto löschen“, then confirm.
- By email: write to andreas.alexander@andreasalexanderapps.com from the email address of your Apple or Google account with the subject „Delete Big Steppers account“. We delete the account within 30 days.
Deleting removes your profile, daily steps, friendships, groups, duels, nudges and chat messages from our servers permanently. Nothing is kept.
9. App stores
When you download the app from the Apple App Store or Google Play, Apple or Google process data under their own privacy policies. We have no influence over this.
10. Children
The app is not directed at children under 13.
11. Your rights
You have the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection (Art. 15–21 GDPR), as well as the right to withdraw any consent you have given. Contact us at any time at andreas.alexander@andreasalexanderapps.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority.
12. Changes
We will update this policy when the app or the legal situation changes. The version published here applies.
